Designer Lounge - Guide to Commission Requests

In Style Boutique 2, you can take on the role of a fashion designer! There's a number of different aspects to the role, this guide will focus on how to complete commission requests from brand representatives. This guide is the first part to a series of guides about the Designer job in the game. Other guides in this series include:
Visit the Designer Lounge at Taylor Arcade and you'll be meet by a brand representative who will request to work with you to design an item. Different design requests are available on each day of the week.

The brand representative will give you a run down on what they are looking for in the design in regards to pattern, colour or decoration. We're going to have a look at designing a pair of tights for the Marble Lily brand. They're after a pair of tights with a pink base and a heart pattern. Don't worry if you forget the requirements of the design, you will be able to see them listed when you design the item.

Let's design some tights shall we?

Some of the patterns representatives request need to be unlocked first and they will give you a hint of a location to visit to get some inspiration for the design. Once I was asked to design a checkered pattern shirt for Brooke Bridge and the representative suggested I visit the cafe for inspiration. Talk to the NPC with the musical note and after talking to them, you will become inspired and unlock a new pattern.

So inspired!

Check pattern unlocked!!

Head back to your boutique and click on the stairs icon to visit your designer studio on the second floor of your boutique. Click the commission icon and select the design request you wish to work on.

First, you need to select the type of item you wish to design if it hasn't been pre-selected, for example when designing dresses or shirts you need to select the design the representative is after i.e. princess dress or mermaid dress. Next, select the base pattern design. Marble Lily is looking for some heart design tights so we'll select the hearts pattern. Once you complete more design requests, you will unlock more patterns.

Now you select a base pattern colour and you can change this at a later stage if you don't like the colour combination of the design. The colours available are limited to the ones you have unlocked in your colour palette. A handy guide for unlocking colours in the colour palette can be found here. We'll choose a shade of pink for the base colour of the tights. Then you need to select a colour for the pattern (in this case the hearts). This colour is known as pattern colour 2 and is used in a number of patterns such as stripes or raindrops.

If the brand representative is after a particular design, you may be asked to select a decoration pattern. Here's some examples of design requests that feature decoration patterns. The first example shows AZ-USA was looking for some bold slip-ons that had a eyelet design. I used purple for the base and enhanced the look of the eyelets with a bright blue colour.

Once you have chosen a base pattern and decoration pattern, you will be brought to a screen where you can make any alterations. Click on the icons to change part of the design. The first icon (the spotted one) is to alter the base pattern and the other two are to alter the colours. The second spotted icon is the alter the decoration pattern. The decoration pattern for this design is plain, but if you selected another option, there would be icons to alter the decoration pattern colours. After this, you are prompted to give your design a name (I called mine Hearts Among Us).

Final design!

Once you have completed all the steps, the game will ask if you are happy with your final design. Select yes and the brand representative will pay you a visit to take a look at your design to see if its meets their requirements. There's a cute little animation of you showing off your design to the representative.

If the representative is happy with your design, they'll give you their seal of approval. But if you haven't made the item correctly, they'll ask you to design it again (more on that in a moment). The representative will pay you for your work (payments vary on brands) and provide you with 10 pieces of the item to sell exclusively in your boutique. Customers will request to buy these items but you can sell them if you want the space for stock.

Occasionally, the brand representative will give you a special item for helping them. These items are either special miniatures of the brands clothing items or frames, walls and flooring for Caprice Chalet rooms.

Now sometimes the designs don't turn out the way the representative would like. The game does remind you of the design requirements the representative is after, but sometimes we get carried away and design it the way we would like or the colour combination is just not right. Here's an example of an AZ-USA design for a sports bag gone wrong. The representative was after a bag with a black base and pink decoration. The item designed was blue with a black ribbon.

If this does happen, don't worry as you are given the chance to design the item again. The game gives you three chances before the representative cancels the request. Here's the correct bag design for the AZ-USA representative.

Here's some more examples of design requests and the completed product.

You may run into a problem when completing the Tiramisu t-shirt design for April Bonbon. There is a bug in the game where the actual design is not the one the representative request. You can find more information on the design at the Bugs and Glitches page.

There's a total of 52 design commission requests available in the game. Unfortunately, the game only allows you to store about 30 in your portfolio. So you will need to delete designs from your portfolio if the game informs you that you're portfolio is full. The portfolio contains all your designs including your personal ones. Please check my Designer Lounge Request Guide on how to unlock all the requests and the Picture Guide for pictures of all the designs.

  1. What about unlocking patterns that you can't talk to an npc for? I'm having trouble with the houndstooth shoes. It says to look around my own boutique.

    1. I think to unlock the houndstooth design, you serve an NPC or something at your Boutique. I remember having trouble with it too, but can't recall how to exactly unlock it. Try visiting your second floor or talking to any NPC's with musical notes. Hope this helps a bit :)

    2. When I got the houndstooth shoes, I was helping a few customers and got a small cutscene with someone coming in and talking to me. They mentioned houndstooth and then I got "inspired." I had to leave my shop a lot between getting the request and getting the inspiration. I think it takes a few tries sometimes.

    1. Emblems can be used on certain items you design yourself on the top floor of your boutique. You can place emblems on items such as shoes and shirts. Emblems can be designed via the design menu on the top floor of your boutique.

    1. You need to accept the April Bonbon t-shirt request and visit the Restaurant. It should have a star symbol above the location when the option is available to unlock the pattern.

    1. The dress should be white in colour. When I did the request, I used the mermaid style dress but I think you can use any. Been nearly 2 years since I did it, so I don't remember much :)

  8. Hey, love the guide; really great info. Got to the part where Eliza from Purple Moon commissions pop out fits for some friends. I have been hunting for Eliza across the city in her odd outfits again (saying she's on break) and I just wondered how many times I have to find her before I can try to complete the commission? It remains locked until something is satisfied so if you know please let me know and if not here's a heads up :)

    1. I believe you need to find her at all the different locations around the city plus maybe some at the train station too. I think she only appears once or twice a day, so it may take a little while.
